Kenra Daniels’ #SixSunday – Yet Another Title?

Cick to visit the Six Sentence Sunday Blog for a list of all the participants this week. Visit, enjoy, and show some comment love!

This week’s Six Sunday is from the same Erotic Romance Novella the last couple have been from. Now, last week, the plan was that this story’s title would be “Dare To Stare”. Since then, during edits, the focus of the story has changed, and the entire concept evolved.

This story has become the foundation of a series of contemporary Erotic Romances. The series, titled The Double Dare Club, is based on the nightclub introduced in this story, the Double Dare. For the series, all the couples will be connected in some way to the Double Dare – one might work there, they might meet there, or meet in a fender-bender in the street out front.

Because of the change in focus for the current story, “Dare To Stare” no longer fits as the title. The new title, referring to the smex-in-the-closet scene, and other incidents, is Tight Spaces. The following Six Sentences are from the aforementioned smex-in-the-closet scene.

Lost in the overpowering sensations of his skillful ministrations, Amy nearly failed to register the shift in Jesse’s weight as he guided her backwards. When he used one hip and knee to push something aside, he cursed against her mouth and jerked his hand away from her hip. Something heavy slipped with a tearing rasp of cardboard. Another something struck the floor with a low thud, followed by the muffled clink of shattering glass. Whiskey fumes rose from the floor with eye-watering intensity.

Unperturbed, Jesse guided her around another obstacle without incident until her shoulders, bared by the near-backless dress, met a cold smooth surface.

The current plan is to publish Tight Spaces in early to mid September, 2012. Keep checking back for more details as they become available.

  1. Yes, closets come with challenges other than simple lack of room.

I like the change in title. You’ve done a good job describing this scene so it’s easy to visualize. Well done!

    • Thanks Silver! I hoped I managed to show it pretty clearly and still keep the writing tight that’s one of my biggest challenges right now :)

Funny how we conquer one issue or fault, only to reveal another! I guess it’s all part of becoming a better writer, but it can be frustrating.

I agree with Silver, the title change was a good plan. It’s a cleaner, sharper title. Your six is full of some truly excellent descriptive writing. Very nice job! Good luck on your upcoming release this fall.

    • Thanks, Jess! I like this title better – it’s more memorable, more descriptive and immediately raises a question for the reader.

I’m so glad the description came off clearly – I have a hard time limiting use of adjectives and adverbs and still keep the descriptive aspect. I still have adverbs and adjectives here, but not as many as the first draft, and I think I cut enough to keep it tight. At least I hope I did! :)

  5. Hot stuff! It’s funny how stories decide to change their titles like that, isn’t it?
